Digipage Viewer 17/11/2008 Release
Numerous updates in this release:
Low res images now show a loading icon while the images are downloading. During normal operation, this will not be visible on-screen,
since the low-resolution images are normally loaded and cached prior to displaying on-screen. However, when the 'fittoscreen' variable is used
(set to 'true'), the low-res images will reload when the window size changes. During this process, the loading icon on-screen lets the user
know that data is being downloaded onto the page. It is also possible to occasionally see this if the page is dropped before the low-res image
gets loaded - in this case, the page will be white and the loading icon serves to show that something will be appearing on page.
Fixed a problem with the 'fittoscreen' variable - occasionally a page would load at the incorrect size and appear on screen at start
-up, running off the edges of the screen. This has now been fixed.
Mouse cursor zoom icon. The zoom icon will no longer display if the 'nozoom' variable is used.
Video buffering time. It is now possible to alter the amount of video to buffer before playback begins. On some videos or internet
connections, the default buffer time is not long enough to allow smooth playback of video. In these cases, use the 'videobuffertime' variable,
setting the value to the number of seconds to buffer (eg, enter 12 as the value for twelve seconds of buffer time).
New page turning methods (BETA - use at own risk!). In response to some requests, we have now implemented two different page-turning
methods to complement our standard page turning system. Enter the variable name 'turnmethod' with one of the following values:
0 - The standard (and best!) page turning system we're all used to
1 - A flat-style, page turning system. This does not use a real-time physics engine, and is therefore less processor-intensive
than our usual method. We don't think it looks as good, however we are aware that some customers do request it, so here it is!
2 - No page turn (slide show). The lack of any type of page turn facility is occasionally requested (yes, really!). You can use
this turnmethod in conjunction with 'pageshadow = false' to make what would be considered a standard PowerPoint-style slideshow.
Whilst not high on the priority list, we will be considering other page turn methods. If anyone has a specific need, please let us know
and we'll look into the possibilities.
eBook shadow modification. It is now possible to modify the shadow around the eBook with the use of the following new variables:
name
example value
description
pageshadowdist
2
the distance of the shadow from the page
pageshadowang
45
the angle of the shadow
pageshadowcolor
000000
the colour of the shadow
pageshadowalpha
50
alpha transparency of shadow (values 0-100)
pageshadowblurx
5
x-blur amount of shadow
pageshadowblury
5
y-blur amount of shadow
eBook 3D view (BETA - use at own risk!). This is actually a re-introduced feature from earlier versions of Digipage, however it is
now available through the use of variables in the control panel. Basically, it gives a 'tilted-back' view of the brochure, making it appear
more three-dimensional in appearance. Due to the amount processor usage demanded by this feature, it is best to only use it on small,
thumbnail-like views of a brochure. You can enable and modify this function with the following variables:
name
example value
description
enable3d
true
turn the 3D view on
tiltamount
95
change the tilt amount (default is 95)
For very slow internet connections, the initial flash loader now incorporates a simple preloader to prevent a blank screen from appearing when Digipage is first loaded.
