Since the beginning of this year, we have seen quite significant and increasing levels of traffic directed at our brochures. This has affected our ability to report tracking information which, during this time, has also become more complex. We now track information relating to new and repeat visitors, locations of visitors, durations of visit, referrals and a host of other useful stats.
This increasing complexity meant that earlier this year, we switched from a live reporting system to a 'batch-run' approach, where reports were compiled twice a day. Due to the sheer volume of the traffic, this would often take many hours to run.
However, we're always looking at ways to improve every aspect of our system - and this is one such area where we have been making serious improvements.
Over the past few days we have implemented several fundamental database design changes and code changes, increasing the reporting speed and making it 20x faster than it previously has been. The upshot of this is that:
1. The stats are now fault-free - all reports are generating correctly with no need to recompile or wait overnight for an update.
2. We are *trialling* hourly reports generation, meaning you get your data faster, and it remains more up-to-date. Please note however that this is a trial whilst we gauge the server load.
As well as that, we're still working on additional features for the stats system, so watch this space.
